The city of Varanasi (also known as Benares) is mostly famous for its handicrafts, including weaving. Just going by the statistics we estimate that there are about 100000 weavers in Varanasi out of that 80% of whom are Muslims. ‘Benarasi’ saris are particularly famous, made of finely woven silk with a unique additional embellishment upon the regular weave.
Abdul Halder has been working towards the upliftment of the Handloom artisan from Benares and providing them a platform to present their art not in India but across the globe. His range of business wear has ties which are hand woven from Benares and he is looking forward to create a fashion line from the place considering the aura and aesthetics and giving them life in his designs. The initiative taken by him is in the process with numerous things and dreams to be accomplished.
Along the way, there have been celebratory achievements like showcasing his work at the United Nations headquarters and being awarded by the Australian government for promoting Indian Culture and Tourism. As a designer known for contemporizing Indian fashion.
